For the Chongathan family!

Donation protected
January 19 is Christine and Jonathan's wedding anniversary. This year on their anniversary, they had to rely on the strong bonds of their marriage.

On 1/19/23, after a trip with extended family in Maui, Christine, Jonathan, and Rosalind headed to the big island of Hawaii to hang out with their friend, Taio. On the flight, Christine was in extreme pain and an ambulance was called to meet them at the airport. Christine underwent two surgeries due to intensive internal bleeding. She had an emergency C-section for her baby and then another surgery to find the source and stop the internal bleeding. Baby girl (Christine and Jonathan can tell you the name) was born at 28 weeks and 6 days, just squeezing into the Year of the Tiger. She was whisked off to the NICU in Honolulu, Oahu within a few hours of birth because the hospital in Kona does not have adequate facilities to care for a pre-term baby.

Christine, as the badass we all know her to be, has progressed steadily, despite multiple surgeries. She was released from the hospital in Kona on 1/26. She and Jonathan are looking forward to connecting with baby girl for the first time when they fly over to Honolulu on 1/31.

Marriage creates bonds between people; it also creates bonds between communities. So many of you have already reached out to support Christine, Jonathan, Rosalind, and baby girl. We are deeply grateful for the love and care you've shown through texts, emails, phone calls. These moments of connection are deeply nourishing and life-giving to the Chongathan family.

If you are moved to support financially, thank you! There are significant, unanticipated costs because they are in Hawaii and not Sacramento. Christine will be staying in Honolulu for an indefinite period until baby girl is medically safe to travel. Donations will be used towards housing for Christine and family in Honolulu, transportation, meals, new baby equipment, miscellaneous supplies, recovery necessities and supplies, and medical costs including the possibility of a medical flight home to California.
