A Permanent Home for San Miguel's Angel Dogs
Donation protected
UPDATE (January 2024): The Sanctuary is building a permanent location and must move by the end of February. We are raising funds to purchase land and build enough infrastructure (fencing, dog runs, vet clinic, worker housing) in less than six weeks! This is phase I of our capital campaign and happening much quicker than we thought, but we are excited to start working on building out Amy and the Board's vision.
We continue to raise funds on our other platforms but are relying on our Gofundme to raise funds for moving day. For that reason, we have increased our fundraising target. Thank you to all who are supporting us!
About Angelitos Sanctuario
There is a true angel in San Miguel de Allende Mexico--Amy Gigi Alexander-- who has literally given up everything to devote herself to caring for the abused and neglected animals in the central highlands of Mexico. She is the founder of Angelitos Sanctuario.
They operate on a Sanctuary model, adopting out strong candidates and providing permanent homes for the unadoptable and severely handicapped. They have a number of blind and paralyzed dogs who call Angelitos home.
In just four years, they have saved more than 1,000 dogs and rescued more than 100 (live) puppies thrown away in garbage cans. The animal cruelty that is all too common in this part of the world is heartbreaking. The Angelitos animals have essentially won the lottery. Watch their video to learn more.
About Amy Gigi Alexander
Angelitos Sanctuario started when a renowned humanitarian (Amy Gigi Alexander) found herself stranded in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico during COVID and met an abandoned street puppy (Ositio).

That woman went on to save more than 700 dogs out of her 2-bedroom apartment during COVID and hundreds more since moving to rented property in the countryside.
Sadly, in Mexico, puppies like Osito are everywhere. Six out of every 10 dogs lives—and dies—in the streets. Animals are thrown out of moving cars along the highways. Bags of puppies are found in garbage cans, still alive.
Amy isn't just anyone, though. We call her our "Bad-Ass" founder because of what she's accomplished already in life. Among other things, she has:
- Volunteered at orphanages in a dozen countries and lived with Mother Theresa’s Missionaries of Charity sisters helping 100’s of disabled children.
- Walked the Camino de Santiago 20 times and crossed 8 countries on foot and alone.
- Lived with indigenous groups and in civil war zones to help the poorest of the poor.
She is an award-winning published travel journalist. who has given up her adventurous life to dedicate her life to Angelitos Sanctuario. In other words, an investment in Angelitos is an investment in someone who knows how to make things happen and then does that, makes them happen.

What Makes Angelitos Different?
There are many rescuers in Mexico, but they are generally individuals working out of their homes with extremely limited resources. Angelitos Sanctuario is creating a new model.
- They are the only full-service sanctuary offering 24-hour vet care onsite, including surgery, aftercare and physical rehabilitation.
- They are the only sanctuary able to properly care for paralyzed and extremely disabled animals.
- They are the largest sanctuary in our region and the only one to offer a permanent home to the unadoptable.
About This Fundraiser:
My brother Pete DiDomenico and I, both lifelong animal lovers, are jointly hosting this fundraiser to support her.
We are collecting the money on behalf of Amy Gigi at her request to allow her to fully focus on the animals because it's a 24-hour job.
We thank all the supporters of this effort. Amy Gigi has developed such a loyal following over the years and we are all so appreciative of you.
