❤️ OUR MOM, SUSAN — A LIFE OF LOVE
Our mom, Susan Smull, was tender, soft-hearted, and full of quiet strength. She was the type of person who made everyone feel seen and safe. She loved deeply. She forgave easily. She cared for others even when no one was caring for her. She was our home.
On October 24, 2025, our mom passed away unexpectedly under circumstances that have left our family heartbroken, confused, and searching for answers.
WHAT HAPPENED TO HER
Just weeks before she passed, our mom was:
walking on her own
talking and texting daily
laughing with family
helping other residents in the building
fully coherent and independent
not diagnosed with dementia or Alzheimer’s
She was aware, capable, and hopeful.
But after she was transferred to a new hospice provider — one she did not choose, and one the caregiver pushed her toward — everything changed.
Within nine days, she went from independent and alert to:
heavily medicated
confused
bedridden
texting friends that she was not allowed to go to the hospital
expressing fear about the medications she was being given
A close family friend found her foaming at the mouth the morning she died.
No emergency help was called for her.
No one notified her family of her condition.
We are devastated and still searching for clarity.
WHY WE ARE ASKING FOR HELP
We created this GoFundMe to help our family:
bring our mom home with dignity
finalize her arrangements
cover costs of obtaining medical records
support ongoing state-level investigations
seek the truth about her death and hold a memorial gathering where we can honor her life.
We want to give our mom what she deserved:
a gentle, respectful, and honest goodbye.
️ WHO SHE WAS
Our mom was:
a loving mother and grandmother
a quiet giver who never asked for anything
soft-spoken, sweet, forgiving
someone who made others feel safe
the person who would wrap you in love with just her voice
She deserved peace.
She deserved safety.
She deserved to grow older surrounded by love — not fear and confusion.
We want to honor her life the way she lived it:
with love, kindness, and truth.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
Our family is devastated and deeply grateful for any support during this painful time. If you are able to donate, share, or send a message of encouragement, our family will be forever grateful.
Your support helps us:
fight for answers
honor her memory
and bring her home with the dignity she deserves
Thank you for loving our mom with us.
With love,
Family and Friends of Susan Smull
