Sarah, our incredible wife, sister and daughter, is one of the strongest most courageous people we have ever known. Today, our family is reaching out to ask for help and to share her story.
Sarah’s journey has taken a rapid and unexpected turn.
We are now facing a race against time to raise as much money as possible to access a drug and treatment that could make a real difference.
While this treatment is not currently available to Sarah through the NHS, it is available if funded privately. The costs involved are overwhelming, but we are determined to do everything we can to give Sarah access to every possible option.
For over a decade, breast cancer has been a constant part of our lives, it’s been a journey filled with unimaginable strength, resilience, heartbreak & fear. Through surgeries, endless treatments, chemotherapy’s, radiotherapy's, scans, biopsies and setbacks, Sarah has faced every challenge with extraordinary courage.
Sarah is the kindest, bravest, most remarkable woman we know and even in her darkest moments, she has continued on this journey with grace, dignity, determination, and a strength that inspires everyone around her. She has never given up - not for herself, not for her daughter and her family, and not for the people who love her.
What began as a breast cancer diagnosis in 2015 devastatingly developed into secondary breast cancer 7 years ago. Through out this time Sarah has time and time again exceeded doctors’ expectations, one professor even described her as a “phenomenon” . Her resilience, mindset, and refusal to give up have helped her push far beyond what anyone thought possible.
Until now, Sarah has chosen to keep much of this journey private, mainly to protect her daughter & family and never wanting to ask for help. But we have now reached a point where we are left with little choice and need to reach out and ask for support.
Sarah’s latest chemotherapy which she has endured for 2 years, when many patients only manage around six months, is no longer working. Her latest scan showed that her tumours have started to grow again.
She is going to be starting a very low dose chemotherapy that she has had previously, therefore this is not the best option but the only one we have to potentially stabilise her ready for the next steps.
Sarah has now reached a point in her journey where all treatment options currently available through the NHS have been exhausted. Unfortunately, there are NO new treatments available on the NHS that could provide the support and hope she so desperately needs. Throughout the years, the treatment and care Sarah has received have been nothing short of amazing. Her team has gone above and beyond, doing everything possible to help her live as well as she can while facing this disease.
There is a drug available that has shown promising results for patients with the same type of secondary breast cancer that Sarah has. However, to receive this drug on the NHS it depends on certain receptors, so whilst some patients qualify for this, others must access it privately — almost like a lottery.
Unfortunately, Sarah does not meet the NHS eligibility criteria for this treatment. We have explored every possible avenue to access the drug, including an application on compassionate grounds, which was declined. We have also contacted our local MP and the Department of Health & Social Care, but responses have been slow, generic, and offered little compassion.
The reality is simple: it comes down to cost. Despite proven benefits for patients in the UK and abroad, the NHS will not fund this treatment for Sarah and she can only access it privately.
The funding of this treatment privately comes at astronomical costs and simply beyond our reach alone. The cost of just one 3 week cycle of the drug alone is over £20k, meaning 6 -8 months worth of treatment would potentially cost over £200k.
To create this page is incredibly hard for us as a family because asking for help doesn’t come easily but we will not sit back when there is a treatment out there that could help Sarah to continue her fight.
We WILL do whatever it takes.
Sarah is not just a patient or a name on a piece of paper, she is an amazing mum to her beautiful daughter , an incredible wife, sister, aunty, daughter and friend.
We truly believe that if she is given the chance to access this treatment, she will continue to defy the odds just as she has done so many times before.
She has spent 11 years showing what it means to be brave, and now she needs the support of others to help her continue on this journey.
We are asking for your help in any way you can — whether that’s donating, fundraising, or simply sharing Sarah’s story with others.
If you can donate, no matter how small, it will bring her closer to accessing this treatment. If you can’t donate, sharing this page could make all the difference to us.
Any funds raised will be used solely for the drugs, medical expenses, any other potential drugs out there, to support her medical treatment, recovery and associated costs throughout this journey and beyond for Sarah and her family.
Thank you for standing with Sarah. Thank you for believing in her. Thank you for giving us hope when we need it most.
Nothing is out of reach when you have hope.
Sarah has never given up and and with your help, she won’t have to.
