My name is Haneen, and I am the mother of a little boy named Sami Al-Zant — just five years old, with eyes full of wonder and a smile that could melt the hardest of hearts.
On September 1st, 2023, Sami carried his tiny backpack and walked into kindergarten for the first time. His heart was bursting with joy, as if the world was welcoming him with open arms. But just forty days later, his world came crashing down with the outbreak of war in Gaza.
We endured seven long months of horror — the sound of bombs, constant fear, losing loved ones, and being forced to flee our home again and again. Eventually, we managed to escape to Egypt, seeking safety and a chance to rebuild our lives.
Now, we are living in extremely difficult conditions. We have no home, no stable education for Sami, and no proper healthcare. All we have left is hope — and Sami’s voice, still calling the stars “lights of hope,” believing that the world is still a kind place.
But the truth is, if we don’t act quickly, I might lose him. Not in years — in months.
This is not just a plea for donations. This is the cry of a mother who has lost everything but her child.
If you met Sami, you would understand. He’s not just any child. He is light. He is joy. He does this sweet little thing where he puts his hands on his cheeks to “make his smile prettier.” It’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.
