In January 2025, Rina received a diagnosis of stage IV breast cancer—a profound irony given her commitment to health and wellness. While living in Washington, D.C., she volunteered with City Year and later became an elementary school teacher within the D.C. public school system. Through sheer discipline and dedication to healthy eating and regular exercise, Rina lost over 100 pounds.

Her journey of service extended internationally; before relocating to Los Angeles, she volunteered with the Peace Corps in Morocco and taught kindergarten at a British International School in Saudi Arabia during the pandemic. Recognizing the importance of her physical health, Rina proactively addressed chronic foot pain by undergoing two surgeries. Despite the daily discomfort, she rarely voiced complaints.

After her second surgery, while completing culinary school and juggling multiple jobs, Rina sensed something was still wrong. This led to her recent diagnosis of an aggressive, advanced-stage breast cancer.

Yet, Rina's spirit remains unbroken. Even through ongoing treatment, she continues to give back, volunteering at the Compton Community Garden, as well as at a local wellness community organization. Her selflessness and resilience are truly inspiring.

As of June 30th, Rina lost her health insurance. We are diligently seeking solutions to ensure she receives the lifesaving care she deserves. Your support will directly contribute to covering outstanding medical bills, upcoming copays and treatments, and essential living expenses.
