My best friend is facing the unimaginable: the loss of their child. Penelope has been diagnosed with an extremely rare condition known as Krabbe disease. With odds of just 1 in 100,000, she is one of only nine children in the UK with this genetic disorder, which severely impacts the nervous system. Tragically, Penelope’s parents were unaware that they were both carriers of the gene responsible for this condition, which manifests when both parents pass down the faulty gene. There’s a 1 in 4 chance for each child to inherit both genes.

With a heartbreaking prognosis of only 13 months to 2 years, time is precious for Penelope and her family. This GoFundMe campaign aims to support her family during this incredibly challenging time, which includes her older brother Freddie, who is just 2 years old and undergoing testing to determine if he might also develop this disease.
