In Memory of Paul Hughes – For his two Boys He Loved Beyond Measure.
At just 59 years old, Paul was taken from us in an act of unimaginable violence. In an instant, two boys lost their dad, a family lost a much-loved son and brother, and friends, colleagues and teammates lost someone they respected and cared about.
Nothing can change what happened. Nothing can give Ieuan or Iestyn, his sons, one more hug, one more laugh, or one last conversation with their dad. What we can do is help make sure they don't have to face what's ahead on their own.
Paul was a lifelong rugby player, he was known to his rugby teammates at Northampton Casuals as "Spit". A proud Welshman, rugby gave him lifelong friendships and some of his happiest memories.
Whether it was over rugby, a pub quiz, a coffee or a pint, Paul had a knack for making people laugh. But more than anything else, he was a devoted father. His boys were always the most important part of his life.
Even in death, Paul helped others through organ donation, giving people he never met the chance of a future. It was a final act of kindness that was entirely in keeping with the man he was.
Paul was well known in the payments industry for his knowledge, integrity and willingness to help others. He was generous with his time and always happy to offer advice or encouragement.
Anyone who knew Paul also knows he would never have asked for help himself. So today, we're asking on behalf of the two people he loved more than anything.
We've purposely not set a target as any contribution would be deeply appreciated no matter how big or small. This appeal will help give Paul the funeral he deserves, and support his family in doing so.
Many people first heard about Paul's death through the news. Behind those headlines is a family whose lives have been changed forever, and two young men learning to live without their dad.
If Paul's story has touched you, please consider donating or sharing this appeal. Every gift, however small, and every share will make a real difference.
If you knew Paul through work, rugby, or simply as a friend, you'll know he was always there when someone needed him.
Now, when he can no longer be there for his boys, we hope those whose lives he touched will help support them in his memory.
For Paul.
For his boys.
