Right now, Australian families don't have a seat at the table when it comes to childcare policy.
In response to the growing childcare crisis in this country, a group of parents got together and decided to take matters into their own hands. They formed a volunteer advocacy group called For Parents, and launched the Our Kids, Our Choice petition on Change.Org.
The petition calls on the Albanese Government to expand the Childcare Subsidy to allow families to subsidise a broader range of care options, including care by nannies, grandparents and in co-working spaces that have onsite care. Right now, most families can only apply the childcare subsidy to centre-based daycare, regardless of whether they can actually access daycare or want to use it.
The For Parents team believes every family deserves to have affordable choice on the model of care that best suits their child, family needs and work circumstances. The ask is not for any additional money. It is to allow families to use the existing subsidy on other options.
In the first 6 weeks of launching, the petition has gained over 15,000 signatures and has been featured in over 50 media interviews, including The Today Show, 10 News+, The Australian and the Sydney Morning Herald. It's gaining traction!
We've gotten this far with grit, Canva and our time. The next step requires funding. To boost this campaign and have a real shot of change, we need to get to in front of politicians in Canberra.
Please donate to help make this a reality.
