For our warrior Christophe Legrand #cardiacarrest

We are creating this Go Fund Me for Christophe & Debora, a young couple from Mauritius Island who moved to Montreal 2 years ago, starting a new chapter of their lives. They were both able to secure stable jobs despite the pandemic context.

 

In the early morning of November 29th, 2021, in Montreal, at the age of 36, Christophe suffered a cardiac arrest.

He collapsed in front of his pregnant wife Debora and 4 year old daughter.

Thanks to the CPR maneuvers initiated by Debora, and the quick arrival of the paramedics, his heartbeat was re-established. He was then transported to Hospital Sacre Coeur and placed in an induced coma.

While his dad was still in a coma, Baby Mathys was born prematurely on December 3rd. As a premature baby, Mathys had to be kept in the hospital for a week. He spent the first week of his life at the hospital, right next to his Papa, and went home on December 10th. Debora gave life twice in less than a week: she saved Christophe’s life on that Monday morning and gave life to a beautiful baby boy on Friday morning.

Christophe spent another 6 weeks in the hospital, where he underwent many procedures due to his brain being deprived of oxygen during this cardiac arrest.

He had to re-learn how to breathe on his own.

After nearly four weeks he found his voice again and re-learned how to speak. He also finally was able to swallow food again.

Christophe now has a pacemaker which he will require for the rest of his life.

Christophe then spent another 3 months in a rehabilitation center - another testament of his strength of character and resilience. At the rehab center he worked extremely hard to improve both his physical and mental capabilities, before being released home (Easter long weekend!)

Surviving a cardiac arrest is truly a miracle, but the road to recovery is a long one.

As such, Christophe will not be able to resume working (or driving) in the immediate future.

Your donations will help offset the impact of Christophe’s prolonged recovery and provide his family with some well-deserved peace of mind for the next year.

 

Donations will go towards psychologist support for the whole family, rent, transportation, diapers, formula, childcare and so on.

Nous avons décidé de lancer cette campagne Go Fund Me pour venir en aide à Christophe et Debora, un jeune couple qui a quitté l’Île Maurice pour démarrer une nouvelle vie à Montréal, il y a deux ans. Le couple avait réussi à décrocher un emploi stable malgré le difficile contexte pandémique.

Le matin du 29 novembre 2021, dans son appartement de Ville Saint-Laurent, Christophe a subi, à l’âge de 36 ans, un arrêt cardiaque.

Il s’est effondré devant Debora, son épouse enceinte, et Manon, leur petite fille de quatre ans.

Les manœuvres de réanimation pratiquées par Debora et l’arrivée rapide des ambulanciers ont heureusement permis de rétablir son rythme cardiaque. Il a alors été transporté à l’Hôpital du Sacré-Cœur où il a été plongé dans un coma artificiel.

Le petit Mathys est né prématurément le 3 décembre dans le même hôpital où se trouvait son papa, encore dans le coma. Ainsi, Debora aura donné deux fois la vie en moins d’une semaine. Elle a sauvé la vie de Christophe le lundi matin et mis au monde un beau petit garçon le vendredi suivant.

Christophe est demeuré six autres semaines à l’hôpital, où il a subi de multiples interventions en raison du manque d’oxygénation du cerveau pendant l’arrêt cardiaque.

Après avoir été intubé, il a dû réapprendre à respirer de manière autonome.

Au bout d’environ quatre semaines, il a pu retrouver la voix. Réapprendre à parler. Pouvoir enfin commencer à avaler ses aliments.

Christophe vit maintenant avec un stimulateur cardiaque (pacemaker).

Au terme de son hospitalisation, Christophe a réalisé un autre séjour de trois mois dans un centre de réadaptation, où il s’est employé avec acharnement à améliorer ses capacités physiques et mentales. Un autre témoignage de sa résilience et de sa force de caractère. Il a pu rentrer chez lui la semaine dernière, avant le congé pascal.

C’est déjà un miracle que de survivre à un arrêt cardiaque. Mais la route à parcourir pour s’en remettre complètement est longue.

Vous comprendrez que Christophe ne sera pas en mesure, dans un avenir immédiat, de reprendre le travail, ou même de conduire sa voiture.

Vos dons contribueront à subvenir aux besoins essentiels de la famille : soutien psychologique, loyer, transport, couches, services de garde. La liste est longue. Bref, une certaine tranquillité d’esprit bien méritée pour l’année à venir.
