As many of you may have heard we sadly lost our dear Sofia Saturday morning to an unfortunate battle with her mental health. As you can imagine, her family and friends are absolutely devastated and cannot even begin to describe how they are all feeling.
Sofia had a wonderful, beautiful, talented and most of all, selfless spirit. She was a straight A student and was aspiring to be Salutatorian in her senior year. She was a member of the Mighty Marching Pilots Band as well as the Girls' Wrestling Team. She touched so many lives in her short time and she will forever continue to touch everyone that gets the chance to hear her story.
Thank you for all the love and kind messages we have received. We are so grateful and blessed to have everyone around supporting us through this. We can't change the world as Sofia could, but in her memory, we will try, and we are starting by telling her story in the hopes that mental health will be treated differently.
With a tragic death like hers, it's easy to fall into an endless loop of what-ifs, but we believe our family did everything right in supporting her. Still, one question lingers our my mind: How might things have been different if society changed how it treated mental illness?
Millions of people like Sofia are suffering, and they don't feel like they can speak openly because of the shame that accompanies it. We are asking for your support through monetary donations and by spreading awareness. If you or someone you know is experiencing depression or has had thoughts of harming themselves or taking their own life, please know and understand that it is okay to get help. It is okay to talk about it.
We love you Sofia. Always and forever. Please protect and guide us as we try to navigate a world in which you are no longer apart of.
Thank you all.
