For Our Dad, Rex Lynne: Fight ALS
Donation protected
We’re Adam and Amanda - Rex Lynne’s children.
This week, our family received news that has changed our lives forever. Our dad has been diagnosed with ALS.
ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) is a fatal neurological illness that progressively deprives people of the ability to speak, eat, move, and breathe. Most people live only 2 to 5 years after diagnosis—some even less. Right now, there is no known cure - but we’re not giving up. Our family has faith and we’re holding on to hope with everything we have.
For the past two years, we searched for answers—doctor after doctor, test after test, hoping for something treatable. Though we never thought the result would be ALS, we’re committed to fighting this disease with everything we’ve got - relentlessly pursuing every potential treatment, trial, and breakthrough that might give our dad more time, more of the quality of life he deserves, and more memories with the people who love him.
Now we know: time is the most precious thing we have.
Who is Rex?
Our dad, Rex, is the heart of our family.
A proud retired Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps, he served our country for 22 years with honor and courage—including deployments to Afghanistan, Iraq, and Guantanamo Bay. He’s a man of deep faith, quiet strength, and unwavering humility.
He was also an incredible athlete and coach, who was integral in the many lacrosse communities he was involved in. He played lacrosse at Worthington High School and Michigan State, bringing the same drive and focus to the field that he carried into every aspect of his life.
Rex has devoted his life to service—to his country, his community and, most of all, to our family. Together with our mom, Brenda—a full-time social worker and the most selfless person you’ll ever meet—he raised us with love, integrity, and resilience. For decades, they have poured their hearts into helping others.
Our parents are the kind of people who give endlessly and never ask for anything in return. But today, we are asking - because we (they) need help.
Why We’re Asking for Your Support
We’ve created this page to help cover urgent and growing costs including:
- A promising stem cell treatment that could add years to Rex’s life
- Out-of-pocket medical and care expenses
- Additional support not covered by insurance or the VA
Why This Matters Now
Most people don’t realize that veterans are twice as likely to develop ALS. It’s a devastating reality - one we never imagined would affect our family. But here we are.
If you know Rex, you know he’s the first to help a neighbor, rescue a stray dog (or squirrel), offer a prayer, or crack a joke when things get hard. He has always put others first, and now it’s our turn to show up and fight for him with everything we have - just like he has fought for this country his entire life.
How You Can Help
Please consider donating - every dollar counts, and every gift brings us closer to providing the care and time our dad deserves.
If you’re unable to give, we’d be so grateful if you could share this page with your network to help us reach others who also may be able to help.
Most importantly, please keep Rex in your prayers. Your support - financial, emotional, or spiritual - means more than we can say.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. We are so grateful.
