I brought Oakley to the emergency vet a couple of days ago for what we thought was a simple UTI. He was given pain medicine, antibiotics and fluids. Within 24 hours his symptoms worsened. I rushed him to the emergency vet yet again where I was told he had gone into kidney failure and his bladder had ruptured. There is no other option than for him to get surgery. The surgery is estimated to cost $5,000.00 - $7,000.00. As much as I wish I could pay for the surgery out right, I simply can't. Between the vet visits, medications and current hospital treatment, I have already spent $1,870.00. If you are able to help in anyway, I would be beyond grateful and I know Oakley would be too.
Some back story on Oakley. On February 16, 2019 I went to an adoption/ rescue fair where over 100 shelters throughout California (where I was living at the time) came together. One of the last rescue booths I came across was Baja Animal Sanctuary. They rescue animals from over the boarder in Tijuana and foster them until they are adopted. I saw Oakley tossing his toy around the tiny playpen and thought he was one funny dude. Before you know it, he was coming home with me! We have been through so much together. At the time of his adoption, I was married and living in California with my husband. My husband and I decided to separate and I thankfully was able to take Oakley. Oakley was the only thing I left with and it's been me and him ever since. We traveled across the country back to the East Coast to be with family. To say Oakley has helped me through one of the toughest times in my life would be a complete understatement. He has been an amazing companion throughout so many difficult times and has brought so much joy and laughter into my life. I could not imagine losing him now.
Oakley is not yet in stable condition for surgery. We are hoping by tomorrow, 02/20/21, he will be stable enough to undergo surgery and make a full recovery. For now he is receiving fluids and pain medication to make him as comfortable as possible. The vet was also able to insert a catheter and Oakley was able to pass some stones! An awesome sign but this little guy still has a long way to go. Oakley just turned 3 in December, no sure of the exact date since he is a rescue pup. We also celebrated 2 years together this past Tuesday! He still has so much life to live and I have a lot more spoiling I need to do! So please, if you are able to donate anything to help him, we both would forever be grateful!
