Dear Internet Family,
I am asking for help for my second mother Marva. Our story is a familiar one of chosen family. Marva was my care taker from the age of 5 to 14, and took care of me as if she was my second mother. She left her home in the Caribbean to spend her entire adult life caring for children, and now I ask for you to help me care for her.
Marva was diagnosed with diabetes, and as someone without access to health insurance, her situation has deteriorated and become much more dire than we had anticipated.
In the last year she has lost her sight, and requires dialysis three times a week. Her medical bills are mounting and since she cannot work, she now cannot pay her rent or for her own climbing medical expenses.
As she is blind, she now needs assistance with her insulin and we are looking to raise money to help pay a health care professional as well as a home visiting aid, and cover her rent expenses.
It’s never easy to watch the ones that we love fall ill, she is my family, she helped raise me, and now it’s my turn to help in any way that I can. It takes a village. A small donation would really go along way for someone who has made not just an impact in my life, but those of many others.
