For my Mum’s headstone & Macmillan Cancer Support

My name is Isis, I was 8 years old when my mum was diagnosed with Lung cancer, she had just finished her university degree and was going to work for the NHS.

My mum's name was Farai which means 'Be Happy' or 'Rejoice' in her language Shona from Zimbabwe, my mum was always happy and even when she found out she had cancer and wasn't going to live long she always had a smile on her face and was happy.

My mum went through 6 rounds of chemo, had to have radiotherapy for a tumour on her voice cords, an operation on her voice box and even tried new experimental medicines none of them helped and the cancer kept spreading after a battle for 9 months my mum took her last breath and passed away on 17th March 2015.

We had to move house and leave Cornwall to move closer to the rest of our family in England.

She left behind me, my little sister Maia who was 6 and my dad.



We haven’t been able to get a headstone for her and I have decided that I want to raise money for the headstone and to give some money to Macmillan Cancer Support, they were good to my mum and dad when my mum was having her treatments.



I am going to SHAVE my head, a massive decision for me to make, I have only had my hair cut once when I was a baby, it’s taken my 14 years to grow my hair to the stage it is at now.

I think my mum would be proud of me for doing this and I really want to have a memorable headstone for when me and Maia visit our mum at the cemetery.
