You hear stories about it causing death—maybe from a book, a movie, a friend, or a relative. And when you experience the death of a loved one, it may even be one of those random thoughts that cross your mind but immediately dismiss, telling yourself, "Nah, that doesn't really happen," or "They're strong enough to push through." This is especially true if you know the statistics of it. Only 6.5% of people actually diagnosed with Broken Heart Syndrome succumb to it's effects; the other 93.5% are likely to make a full recovery within days or weeks. I was only of those people. I didn't think I would actually witness it.

Though we don't have any official answers, it's the only one that makes sense. Michele Holden Moulton survived Leukemia as a child and breast cancer as an adult. She was definitely a fighter. She had no major health issues that would ever lead any of us to believe she would be gone so soon. But she literally loved Robert Moulton with her whole being and couldn't bare the thought of having to bury him, and ultimately, she didn't have to. Unfortunately for everyone still here, she no longer has to suffer without him.

While the rest of the family and friends were preparing to say goodbye at Rob's services today, Michele was making the journey to greet him once again.

They are now together, forever. But for those of us left behind, the loss is unimaginable. Two parents, gone within days of each other.

We are trying to honor them both the way they deserve — side by side, at rest, after a lifetime of love and devotion. Any contribution, no matter how small, will go toward helping us lay them to rest together and handle the unexpected costs that come with losing both parents so suddenly.
