For Maryam, Rehan, and Amirah

Dear Folks,

I have had the pleasure of knowing Maryam since 2005. That is a good and strong 15+ years of a beautiful friendship and still stronger than ever. She was my first friend in Dallas. In fact, my ONLY friend at recess as a 5th grader. Though high school took us in different routes and later undergrad, we still kept in touch and reconnected often after. In fact, I'd say that she's the reason our friendship is so strong. Maryam is a godly and grounded woman. She was my inspiration to listen to our parents, respect our elders, and stay humble to our traditional routes. She knew and emphasized the value of education, considering her family struggled to come to the United States from Pakistan and by the grace of God provide an education for their only child and daughter.

Maryam, in this grace, completed her education and began working in the IT field. Soon, she married her life partner, Rehan bhaiyya. A year or so into marriage, they had their beautiful baby girl, Amirah (for those of you who've met this sweet baby, she'll most definitely melt your heart). Unfortunately the financial struggles of growing up, the conservative nature of life, and mental pitfalls Maryam faced while growing up here in the United States never fazed her. What did was the tragic death of her husband, Rehan. Last December in 2020, Rehan had a stroke and left to be in the hands of Allah. He is survived by his beloved wife, Maryam, daughter, Amirah, siblings, parents, and in-laws. He was an amazing individual; he denied the patriarchal ways of society, cried happy tears when he found out he had a daughter, studied well to become a pulmonologist, and was a grounded and devout Muslim as well. He was and always will be the perfect match for Maryam. Yet, my dear friend stands strong. She is single-handedly raising her child, taking care of her father who is suffering from COVID-19, and her mother's health condition as well. All the while, trying to pay off $35000 during the month of December when Rehan Bhaiyya was in and out of a coma in the ICU, being resuscitated, and weaned off of life support (a decision Maryam had to make holding Amirah).

This GoFundMe is just a tribute of us saying thank you to Maryam. For being so strong willed, for being positive at all times even amidst adversity. Although Rehan Bhaiyya is her hero, she is ours and I would greatly appreciate any donation to help my friend out. Thank you, mA.
