For Kimbo
Donation protected
Hi all, my name is Sofia, and I am writing this on behalf of my sister and brother in law, who unexpectedly and tragically lost their angel dog, Kimbo.
Kimbo was an unbelievably loyal, intelligent, stoic, and loving dog. He always focused on his family, doing whatever he could to be near them and make them happy. His parents loved him back, cherishing and valuing his beautiful soul like their child. Tragically, Kimbo crossed the rainbow bridge far too soon, at only 4 years old, and we are reaching out to our loved ones and beyond for support during this difficult time.
On Tuesday, September 12, Kimbo’s parents found him paralyzed, unable to walk, and with no sensation or use of his hind legs and tail. After several frantic calls and an ED visit, he was transferred to UC Davis, where he underwent sedation to receive an MRI. The MRI on Wednesday morning revealed an extensive lesion: a severely herniated disc that led to a massive hemorrhage. Kimbo’s 5 1/2 hour emergency surgery to remove the disc material was successful despite surgeons spending an hour to control the bleeding. Although not entirely out of the woods, we briefly anticipated him to recover and take him home eventually. Sadly, Kimbo went into respiratory distress a day after surgery, and his family made the difficult decision to end his suffering in the early morning of Friday, September 15.
The emotional pain of losing Kimbo has been compounded by the substantial burden his treatment incurred. The bills from the multiple veterinary clinics, complex surgery, ICU hospitalization, advanced equipment, medication, laboratory diagnostics, and cremation his family incurred are well over $12,000. This tragedy and its immense cost were never anticipated, and despite having Kimbo covered by pet insurance, they are still struggling to cover the unexpected expenses.
We are turning to our friends, family, and compassionate strangers for support during this painful time. Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a significant difference in helping us alleviate the financial strain caused by Kimbo’s medical bills. All donations will go directly towards covering the remaining costs of Kimbo's medical bills.
We are deeply grateful for any assistance you can provide. Even if you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this campaign. We cannot thank you enough for reading our story. Thank you for any and all of your generosity and kindness.
