My name is Benina working for the Belau National Museum in Palau, a small pacific island in Micronesia. I am the Music&Dance Creative Director and Instructor for the "Creative Music&Dance Program" and singing classes on the island.

Due to lack of funding this year I am starting a gofundme online fundraiser! I would love to offer the program this year especially because of its high demand and YOU can help me!

The Creative Music & Dance Program for Elementary School Students is a comprehensive arts initiative, integrating music, dance and visual arts into a holistic curriculum and established by the Belau National Museum in collaboration with the Ministry HRCTD and Ministry of Education since 2019. The program is designed to raise awareness and to promote physical and social activity, mental well-being and a healthy lifestyle through music, dance, art and movement. Elementary School students get access and explore their surrounding environment and current topics through music and dance that can provide a unique and enriching way for individuals to connect with and understand the world around them. The program operates by providing creative programs in elementary schools throughout Palau and has been a previous recipient of the NCD fund (Ministry of Health and Human Services, Palau)

The program gives an opportunity to disadvantaged children in the community who are interested in dance and art programs, but whose parents may not have the financial capacity to sign up their kids and to support the program’s implementation altogether.

It gives young children the opportunity to participate in a holistic interdisciplinary educational program that equally focuses on dance skills, musical skills and social skills. The classes were open to any gender and ethnicity between the age of 6-14.

I would like to offer a summer program for the elementary school students during the period of three weeks during the summer intersession again this year. Students in and around Koror will be able to participate free of charge in the daily program and conclude the three weeks with a final performance at the Civic Center in Koror. Therefore, an amount of total of $8,000 is needed to implement the summer program this coming June (during the public school summer holidays).

The Creative Music & Dance Program for Elementary School Students is a holistic music, dance and art program.

During the program, students explore one specific topic (past topics were: “The Jungle”, “The Rainbowfish and the ocean”, “Around the world”) and brings it to life! It is designed in a holistic way to promote the student’s abilities in multiple artistic facets including singing, dancing, and artistic expression. It seeks to develop basic vocal techniques and theory alongside flexibility and comfort of movement.

Major goals include increasing control over the own voice and body. Through expert instruction students will improve their singing and dancing skills while learning positive and resilient self-image through artistic expression. The program enables all students to develop positive self-concepts and their capacity to establish and maintain safe, healthy and rewarding lives.

The use of improvisation and design promotes and links various areas such as sensory perception, movement, spatial orientation, musical faculties, interaction, communication and self-expression.

The Creative Music & Dance Program provides a stimulating environment which nurtures creativity and a safe space where originality and expressiveness are valued. It treats music and movement as a single entity.

Focus is on dance and improvisation games, fun in motion, interaction, choreography, body, awareness and expression, reaction, memory games, body coordination, creativity, vocal and instrumental techniques. Moreover, the children improve their social skills, such as how to respectfully interact with others and take responsibility in a group to create art together.

What words cannot express the arts do.

The program intends to support children with their talents and skills in finding a purpose by maintaining a healthy lifestyle and daily or weekly program they can engage with and develop their self-confidence, foster resilience and explore their artistic identity. Therefore, we implemented a holistic interdisciplinary education giving young children an opportunity for purpose, exposure and an artistic outlet.
