Last December, my nephew, Keep Malagday underwent a life-saving surgery to fix his intestines.  It has been tough, but he is now recovering and doing his best to return to his healthy and energetic self.

If you know me, you know about horror stories of the healthcare system in the Philippines. The hospital is now refusing to discharge him unless the family is able to pay the hospital bills amounting to $12,000 (700,000 pesos). They have been literally held hostage because hospitals there are driven by greed and not what’s best for the patient.
