Some of you may already know this, but my name is Kelsey and I need to share some devastating news our family has received.
On the 23rd of October 2025, our family’s world was turned upside down when my little brother, Kayden, was diagnosed with an aggressive bone cancer — osteosarcoma — just one day before his 14th birthday.
What started as knee pain during the summer holidays was repeatedly dismissed as “growing pains”. By the time school began, he was in unbearable pain, struggling to walk, and eventually collapsed at school. After multiple GP visits and an initial A&E dismissal, an X-ray finally revealed a tumour in his knee. An MRI confirmed the diagnosis no family is ever prepared for.
Kayden now undergoes intensive treatment in London — the only place that can treat his cancer. His bones are extremely fragile; after a small fall he broke his affected leg and is now wheelchair-bound and registered disabled- something that will affect him for the rest of his life.
On the 5th of February, he will undergo a major operation where surgeons will do everything they can to save his leg. After that, he will return to chemotherapy until the summer. We are hoping, praying, and wishing with everything we have that this nightmare will finally come to an end — and that we can start making this little boy’s dreams come true.
Our family has been travelling weekly to London, missing work, milestones, and precious time together. I have been responsible for all transport as my parents don’t drive, covering overwhelming travel costs while working less and juggling childcare and most heartbreakingly of all, Kayden is missing out on the final years of his childhood.
We are fundraising to help cover these essential travel costs so Kayden can continue treatment and still come home to his family at weekends. When this nightmare is over, we also hope to give him something to look forward to — a family trip to America, his dream destination, and tools like an iPad Pro to support his incredible creativity.
If this story has touched you, please consider donating anything you can. Every contribution helps us support Kayden and show cancer that it doesn’t get the final say.
Thank you for reading, sharing, and keeping Kayden in your prayers
