With the outpourng of photos and memories shared this past week, it's so evident how much of an impact Johnny has made in all our lives.
He chose a career as a paramedic helping those in their time of greatest need and uncertainty. And with that, we want to help support Deanna, Ava and Sophie through this difficult time.
If you don't know Johnny, sucks to be you! Please read Deanna's post below.
There is a Facebook page created (Johnny Bertrand)
As you know Johnny has been slowly declining due to his rare genetic disease Cadasil. This disease has manifestated over the years causing migraines; headaches; transient ischemic attacks and a massive stroke. He has experienced several progressive losses including the ability to drive; cognitive functioning and motor functioning. Johnny has always had a DNR knowing that he did not want to be total care for us; despite us wanting and willing to take care of him. Johnny in his Johnny way (you all know him and he is determined and practical guy) has made it % clear to me that he wanted to apply for MAID. The MAID Drs have completed the assessment, and as i write this i am a tad numb ; but they have determined that he may be eligible to waive the 90 day waiting period . His 90 day waiting period is done Feb 11; she told us to get his affairs in order. Johnny is task focused as usual and in positive spirits. His girls have always known his prognosis; so they are processing. Thank you for continuing to post to this site. Deanna on behalf of Johnny.
