For Jack and Macy
Brian Derksema sadly passed away suddenly this week. If you know his kids, Jack (9) and Macy (almost 7), and their mom, Kelly Eastman, you know they’re the best of the best! And they need us!
Jack and Macy are mourning a huge loss in their life. And we know this will impact them for a long time.
I’m asking for us all to rally around them, with funds to support them as they process and heal from losing their dad. There is a lot of uncertainty after someone unexpectedly passes away, and I want to make sure that finances aren’t something Kelly has to stress over right now. Brian helped support his kids financially, including health insurance, childcare, and child support - all of which are now 100% on Kelly’s shoulders to bear going forward. In addition to the everyday costs in front of them, there are always unforeseen costs that will undoubtedly arise when raising children such as braces, sports, high school extracurricular activities, etc., which Kelly will now be facing alone.
Many have shown interest in helping Jack and Macy find ways, big and small, to honor their dad. Whether planting a tree in his honor, maybe going to a Seahawks game or a fishing trip that was planned but never taken, let’s help ensure they have the ability to connect to the things Brian loved and wanted to do with his kids.
Please consider helping Jack, Macy and Kelly during this time. If you know them like I do, they are the sweetest. They all three care so much about each other, Brian, and their friends and family and community. I want each and every one of us to offer our support to them. They’re hurting and confused and any way we can lift them up, let’s do it!
If you can, leave a note or story of Brian in the comments – I’ll be sure to share them with Jack and Macy!
