Hi everyone!
As some of you may already know, my mom and I decided to take a trip to Wisconsin to visit our family. We did this because my mom’s health has been declining for quite a while now due to her cancer. I should mention that in October of 2021, she was told by her doctors that they suspected she only had about 6-12 months left to live. Of course, now we are in October of 2022 and mom is still pushing as hard as she can. During our trip, she started feeling extremely short of breath, was unable to walk on her own, and began getting high fevers. She spent most of her time in her wheelchair as she was too weak to walk. On Monday, October 3rd, the day before we were supposed to fly back home to Florida, she sat in her bed at our hotel room and suddenly could not breathe. Her oxygen percentage dropped to 78. For those of you who are unaware, the normal percentage should be anywhere from 95-100. Her temperature was above 104.0 degrees. I called 911 and firefighters were sent to our hotel room to give her oxygen. Shortly after they left, mom’s oxygen started dropping very quickly again, so this time, the ambulance was sent and brought her to the emergency room at Froedtert Cancer Hospital in Wisconsin. Since then, she has been admitted as a patient and has been tested for what could be causing the extreme shortness of breath and high fevers. They suspect radiation pneumonia is causing the shortness of breath, but there are several things that could be causing the fevers that they are still testing for. During her hospital stay, she has gotten progressively worse, but the doctors and nurses are doing all they can for her. So, our trip was unexpectedly extended due to my mom’s hospitalization. I will be flying home to Florida on Saturday, October 8th.
It is likely that mom will be staying at this hospital for weeks. I have had some friends and family offer to donate money, so I have decided to put the GoFundMe together to keep this all centralized. The money would be put towards supplies, toiletries, clothing, and food while she is here. I would also like to be able to fly up to see her on the weekends because it’s not good to leave family alone at a hospital. The remainder of the money will be put towards her medical bills that are not covered by her insurance. We expect this to be a quite a bit because her insurance has a very specific network. Anything at all that is donated will be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Carla
