Meet our beautiful friend Hannah.
Hannah is 41 years old, a wife to her husband Greg of more than 20 years - although neither of them can agree exactly how long! She is a mum to Lauren, 16, and Jacob, 18. She is also one of those people who seems to know everyone — and, more importantly, everyone seems to know and love Hannah.
She is kind, funny, warm, welcoming, chatty and always the person making other people feel comfortable and supported. She is the friend who checks in, the person who makes you laugh and the one who is always looking out for somebody else.
Hannah has always been incredibly active. She loves netball and plays several times a week, including with North Solihull Stars and in social leagues such as Net Set Go. She runs, walks, swims and goes to the gym. If you live around the Water Orton/Castle Bromwich area, you may well have spotted Hannah and her sister Helen jogging along together. She has never smoked or vaped and has always taken great care of herself.
Which is why what happened next has been such a devastating shock.
After experiencing a dry cough for a few months, Hannah began going backwards and forwards to her GP and A&E. She was repeatedly told that it was a seasonal cough, or an infection or something that would pass.
But Hannah knew her own body. She knew that something wasn’t right.
It was through Hannah’s persistence and determination to keep asking questions that she eventually had numerous scans and X-rays. Those investigations ultimately led to the devastating diagnosis in July 2026: stage 4 lung cancer, which had already spread to other parts of her body.
Her cancer has an EGFR mutation, and she is now undergoing chemotherapy alongside targeted tablet treatment.
Our world has been turned upside down.
But if you know Hannah, you’ll know that even now, she is still Hannah.
She remains incredibly positive, determined and hopeful. Rather than asking, “Why me?”, Hannah is already thinking about what she can do to help other people.
One of her biggest hopes is to raise awareness. She wants people to listen to their bodies, get persistent symptoms checked and understand that lung cancer can affect people who are fit, active and have never smoked. If sharing her story encourages even one person to see their doctor sooner, or inspires someone to make a healthier choice, Hannah feels that something positive can come from what she is going through.
That is just Hannah — in the middle of something unimaginably difficult, she is still looking out for everybody else.
Hannah is surrounded by an incredible network of family, friends, North Solihull Stars and the wider netball community, all of whom want to do everything we possibly can to support her.
We are raising money to give Hannah and her family some financial security during what will undoubtedly be an incredibly challenging time.
We want Hannah to be able to concentrate on her treatment, her recovery and making memories with Greg, Lauren and Jacob — rather than worrying about the financial impact of cancer and what the coming weeks, months and years might bring.
We want to give them the opportunity to make memories, have experiences together, enjoy days out, take trips and simply spend precious time as a family.
And here at North Solihull Stars, Hannah has an army behind her.
Our players, past and present along with some of her besties have already been busy putting together some fantastic fundraisers to support Hannah and her family. So keep your eyes peeled — there are some fabulous things coming!
And don’t worry… there will definitely be some fundraisers where you don’t have to wear a netball dress!
Because ultimately, our biggest aim is simple:
We want to get Hannah back on that netball court — exactly where she belongs. ❤️
We are incredibly hopeful that her treatment will give her more time and more good days. We are hopeful for birthdays, holidays, family adventures, laughter, silly conversations, netball sidelines — and, one day, Hannah stepping back onto court.
Hannah has spent her life bringing energy, kindness, laughter and friendship to the people around her.
Now it’s our turn to give something back to her.
If you know Hannah, you’ll know exactly why we are doing this.
And if you don’t know her, we hope that by reading her story you’ll understand what a truly wonderful person she is.
Please donate whatever you can, share Hannah’s story and help us surround this amazing woman and her family with love and support.
Every donation, every share and every kind message means more than you could possibly know. ❤️
Let’s give Hannah the freedom to focus on what matters most: living, loving, laughing and making memories with the people she loves.
And let’s get our girl back on court where she belongs. ❤️
With love,
Hannah’s friends, family, everyone at North Solihull Stars and the huge netball family ❤️
