For Geraldine Butler Support While Fighting Cancer
Geraldine was diagnosed with a rare aggressive acute myeloid leukemia cancer in May 2021. This has completely changed her life in one instant. They were able to get her into remission for now as she is waiting for a bone and blood marrow transplant. What does that look like? Weekly visits for doctor appointments for blood transfusions and maintenance chemo that typically end with her hospitalized every other week. In order to fight off the leukemia until they locate a match for transplant (underdetermined timeframe) the treatments keeps her immune system in a constant state of weakness which leaves her vulnerable and unable to fight off even a small cold. This forces her to be in isolation most times and is mentally, physically and spiritually taking a toll on her.
The reality of cancer for Geraldine is she must reduce her contact with people she loves for her own safety, as she has no immunity to fight germs; even with the person she loves the most her Mom. She must carefully choose and reduce her visits, and on top of that she is not allowed to work until after the transplant is successful. So after 22 years of providing nursing care to patients she finds herself on the other side of the story fighting for her life. Geraldine finds herself completely disabled and medically restricted from working or doing anything that involves being around lots of people.
This is a super hard road to travel down in order for her to survive this cancer and even though she is physically weak and tired I know WE can get through this together!
