Children & Womens Education, Maternal Health (Chennai India)

Hi,
I'm Sue and I'm raising funds for something that truly matters to me - creating real, lasting change for women and children in under-resourced communities.

On 2nd - 8th March 2026 (International Women's Day), I will be driving a rickshaw over 1200km from Chennai to Goa, with 50 other women, to raise funds and awareness for children's education, women’s livelihoods, and maternal health in under-resourced communities in Chennai - no mean feat as you will see in the short video above!

Through this fundraiser, I’m proud to be supporting a powerful collaboration between the Sisterhood group, MMRT42, Ideas Extreme, and Bhumi. Together, they are working on the ground to improve access to education, create sustainable livelihoods for women, and save lives by addressing critical gaps in maternal healthcare in Chennai, India.

I’ve chosen to be part of this campaign because I believe that where someone is born should never determine their access to education, safety, or healthcare. Too many children are learning in unsafe conditions, too many young women lack the opportunity to become financially independent, and too many mothers are suffering from preventable complications after childbirth.

When I gave birth to my first child, without the medical assistance received, I would not be here today.

Both my children have been fortunate to have access to education which has enabled them to pursue excellent careers.

By supporting this campaign, you’re helping children learn in safe environments, empowering women to build independent lives, and giving mothers the care they need to survive and thrive.

Please get in contact for details of the corporate sponsorship packages available, starting at £5,000.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and for supporting a cause that means so much to me. Together, we can truly make a difference.

Ideas Extreme and The Sisterhood in partnership with MMRT42 – Transforming Lives Together.
The Sisterhood group, in partnership with MMRT42, is on a mission to create a lasting impact in underserved communities in Chennai, India. This campaign supports three transformative initiatives: building classrooms for underprivileged children, empowering young women with skills training, and addressing postpartum anaemia among vulnerable mothers.
With The Sisterhood group leading the fundraising efforts and MMRT42 providing on-ground expertise, this collaboration ensures every contribution is maximized for meaningful change.
To ensure seamless execution and maximum impact, Bhumi, one of India’s largest non-profits, will assist with key aspects of these projects, leveraging their expertise in community development.

Our Goal:
As a group, we aim to raise £150,000 to support these three life-changing initiatives. Together, we can create sustainable and impactful solutions for the underserved communities of Chennai.

Our Mission
1. Building Safe, Functional Classrooms
Education is a powerful tool for change. Your support will help:
- Construct safe, weather-resistant classrooms in government-supported schools.
- Increase enrollment by creating a welcoming environment for children, especially girls and special needs students.
- Provide underserved communities with the resources they need for quality education.
Key Impact:
- Impact the lives of 1,000 children per year by providing them with a safe and conducive learning environment.
- Attract more students from nearby neighborhoods.
- Promote education for girls and special needs children in poor communities.
2. Empowering Women with Skills Training
We aim to empower young women aged 18-35 by equipping them with skills and confidence to achieve economic independence. Many of these women are first-generation literates, and your support will help them thrive.
Key Impact:
- Create sustainable livelihoods for underprivileged women - Enable first generation literates to become financially independent.
- Strengthen the economic resilience of rural and semi-urban neighborhoods.
3. Preventing Postpartum Anaemia and Complications
Maternal health is critical for building strong communities. Our campaign addresses postpartum anemia and its complications among vulnerable women in Chennai.

The Current Challenge:
- 6,000 deliveries per month, with 500+ women suffering from anaemia.
- Postpartum bleeding, nutritional deficiencies, and preventable deaths are common.
Our Solution:
- Nutritional Support: Provide iron supplements and fortified foods.
- Blood Bank Support: Ensure timely blood transfusions and stock availability.
- Postpartum Pads: Monitor blood loss and provide immediate care.
- Follow-Up & Medication: Identify high-risk individuals for ongoing support.
- Transportation Assistance: Facilitate access to medical care for rural and low-income women.
Key Impact:
- Save lives and reduce maternal mortality.
- Improve long-term livelihoods by addressing anaemia-related complications.
- Create a sustainable model for postpartum care in resource-limited settings.

Why Your Support Matters
This unique collaboration between The Sisterhood group and MMRT42 ensures that every donation leads to tangible results:
- Breaking the cycle of poverty for underserved children and women.
- Empowering women to lead independent, dignified lives.
- Saving lives by addressing critical gaps in maternal healthcare.
Together, we can create a ripple effect of change that transforms generations.
