For Doctor Bills And Insurance Coverage

Despite the rather good healthcare system in Germany, there had been a quarrel with my husband's insurance company.

To explain a bit more, there is a system in place that automatically will calculate the highest rate for insurance fee if you are a self-employed person. That can only be changed with a tax assessment notice, which can take up to a year or more.

This means that my husband’s insurance company was charging him the maximum amount while we were waiting for the tax assessment, which was a lot more than he was earning. He wasn't able to cover it, and thus a debt accumulated. We married a little over a year ago and wanted to set everything straight again with the company.

We tried to resolve the issue yet they refused to talk with my husband, and I have often been hospitalized myself or simply wasn't around during the years this was going on.

Due to the debt, they had, without informing us, and quite illegally, decided to terminate any contract. Since 2013 no insurance company in Germany is allowed to do that. When we finally got told that my husband wasn't insured at all anymore, we tried to go about this with a lawyer, but apparently we can't do anything unless we have an official notification that he was thrown out of the insurance.

Which surprise, they won't give us.

But my husband needs to see doctors, he hasn't been able to work or make a day to day living for the past few years now. He tried and there had been better days, but the whole of the time, it's more or less me alone who does everything.

He always had trouble with back pain, like probably most of the human population.  His first spinal disc herniation he acquired as a child, due to a bike accident. The second followed in his young adult years due to working as a helper in a factory. The third one followed soon after.  For a few months on time, the pain was bearable and sometimes he only needed low rate painkillers to get through the day.

But it has gotten worse over the years and with all the stress of the insurance he hasn't seen a doctor in so many years. We found one who was willing to see him without an insurance, who prescripted him strong painkillers but said he needs to see a specialist in the next few months because his spine seems to be unstable, his muscles not strong enough to support his back anymore (he's a slim fella). The doctor is worried that if he doesn't get treatment soon, other than opioids, he won't only develop an addiction to those meds, but another spinal disc herniation could result in paralyzation.

Now I have found an agreement with the company, as much as I hate to give in to their atrocious behavior, but for that, we need to pay off the debt and the last few doctor bills ourself.

Currently, I still have a job, but my contract ends in September. Therefore I can't afford to sign a loan agreement with any bank, for that would be seen as deceiving and can result in jail time in Germany. I can't even make a payment plan with a specialist, because they won't take my husband in without an insurance, which only will only take him back in if the debt is solved.

So... I am asking, if any of you have some money to spare so my husband can finally get treatment, I'd be endlessly thankful to you. We need the money to clear his insurance debt, get him reinsured, and then get him the medical treatment he really needs.

I'd offer to do sth in return, but I have no real talent besides not giving up.

Should we get more than the needed money, I will donate it for another medical case.
