For David's Treatment

Hello Friends and Family,
Most of you know that Carlos' family still lives in Nicaragua. The situation there has been tense with recent political unrest and Covid restrictions. Recently, however, we have learned news that makes their situation even more dire- Carlos' youngest brother, David, has been diagnosed with stomach cancer. What we know so far is that there is a 15 cm (~6") tumor growing from his stomach up and around his aorta.
Here is some context that will help explain why we are dependent upon your generosity and are attempting to raise funds. The medical system in Nicaragua is such that there are public hospitals that are government run and then there are private hospitals for those fortunate enough to afford them. The public hospital that David is currently attending does not even have an Oncologist on staff and they had to send the biopsy to Costa Rica for analysis. There has been no treatment plan established, other than to suggest they need size of the tumor to reduce before they can operate, nor are they seeking to manage the pain.
Carlos will be traveling to Nicaragua November 5th-21st in the hopes of getting David transferred to Metropolitano Vivian Pella, a private hospital with connections to a hospital in Houston.
We are in desperate need of funds to cover the medical expenses such as PET scan to assess the stage of the cancer, any chemo-therapy that may be available, the cost of a needed surgery, medications, and follow up care.
David is 40 years old. He and his wife Johana have two young children, Carlitos (3-years old), and Dasha (11 years old). David works as an Instructional Assistant at the American Nicaraguan School in Managua, and he is the sole provider for his young family. However, with the pain he is in, it is very unlikely that he can continue working. Carlos' family, parents and siblings are pulling all their resources together, some of our close friends have contributed to cover some initial expenses, even so, there is no where near enough to cover medical expenses.
We don't really know what to expect in terms of costs, we have no idea if the amount we have set is enough. We do know that every little bit will make a direct difference in David's quality of life and the lives of his family. Please feel free donate according to what you are capable of offering. We really do appreciate any amount you can provide. Also, help us spread the word. You have our permission to share the link to this campaign with folks you know in your circles and would be willing to contribute.
