Daniel has been struggling for the past year, in and out of the hospital, due to diabetes! On Tuesday, September 15th, Daniel went into cardiac arrest and stopped breathing. After 22 minutes of CPR, the paramedics got a pulse but were concerned about the amount of time his brain and organs went without oxygen. After several days in the ICU of showing signs of severe brain damage and being on a ventilator, an MRI was done and confirmed that he has a diffused anoxic brain - meaning several areas of his brain are damaged and he had only two choices. He could remain on the vent and live in a vegetative state on the ventilator or he could be taken off the ventilator and be made comfortable until he passes. He is breathing on his own as he did the entire time he was intubated, but he is not breathing normally so the doctors said he would eventually be unable to sustain his airway and would in fact pass away. The time he will be able to continue to breathe on his own is unknown. They say because he is a 27-year-old male with a strong heart, it could be days, even weeks before he succumbs and passes. Last night, my family decided to let him be free instead of living on a machine lifeless for the rest of his life and had him taken off the ventilator. My mom spent the night at the hospital with him and he was able to make it through the night. The respiratory specialist who is keeping Daniel comfortable with pain meds and anti-anxiety meds said he would be surprised if he makes it more than a few days the way he was breathing when they removed the ventilator. While Daniel is still alive at the moment, we have been assured he will definitely lose his airway and pass away. Many of you don't know, but Daniel was recently diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease and is already at stage 4 or 5 and was told dialysis was in his near future. The physician who completed the MRI told my mom that either Daniel would lose his airway first and pass or his kidney disease would be what causes him to pass since his kidneys were already failing and will do so at a faster rate now that he is not receiving medications for that condition as he was previously. Daniel was told months ago that in his health, he wouldn’t make it to see 2021 but he tried his hardest to make sure he did. His body was just too tired. Because of his battle with diabetes and his other diabetes-related conditions, he was ineligible for health or life insurance, so help is needed for his final arrangement costs. Dear God, anything helps! All money raised will go directly to the final arrangements for Daniel. Please keep him in your prayers and pray that he will not continue to suffer as we wait for the inevitable.
