For Casey's Accident Recovery

We are raising funds for our friend Casey Hare to help him recover from a nasty motorbike accident.

 

During a two week holiday, Casey managed to get himself into a substantial motorbike accident. He was shoved towards oncoming traffic by another vehicle, unfortunately leading his bike directly over a pothole. When he attempted to save the bike’s balance with his left leg, his ankle and tibia snapped on impact, and the bike fell on top of him, dragging him downhill into a vehicle in the opposite lane. Luckily, Casey’s flight was later that same day, so after a messy hospital visit, he flew straight to Tullamarine and stayed at the Royal Melbourne Hospital ever since. The contamination of a large open wound just above Casey's broken ankle has led to extremely aggressive infections. Multiple bacterial colonies set up shop in his bloodstream, leg joints and tissue, creating a myriad of painful issues.

 

As a result, Casey has had to undergo multiple surgeries, including a series of flushes, a few bolts/screws, and a reconstructive flap surgery (like slightly more hectic version of a skin graft? Our boy over here looking like gran’s patchwork quilt :( ). He has been hospital bound for over a month now, and his recovery time will be another 3 - 4 months until he can walk (or work) again.

 

Casey was about to begin his second semester as an art teacher at the Parkville Youth Justice Centre. This accident has left Casey unable to work for the remainder of this term or the next, until his injuries are healed / until he can walk again without the need of a mobility aid (prison + crutches = no bueno). Due to his visa status and because the Aus Gov hates queers (jks but not rly), he has no access to employment insurance such as Centrelink or any other stream of financial support at the moment.

We are looking to raise funds to assist Casey during his recovery, mitigate some of his lost income from work, and to cover his rent/bills until he can get back on his feet again (literally).
