For Baseck, We Hold the Light – He Needs Us Now

UPDATE:

My name is Iris Carmina Escobar, and I am a close friend of Derrick’s. We’ve known each other since 2019. He is the partner of one of my closest friends, Micaela Tobin, who is also my collaborator and former roommate. Derrick and I have also worked together on a Boss Witch project presented at The Ford in Los Angeles. He is family to me, and his well-being is deeply important.

How the Funds Will Be Used:

All funds raised are directly to Derrick to cover the following:
• Immediate Living Expenses: Support with rent, food, and basic necessities as he stabilizes his living situation in Tulsa.
• Medical Expenses: While Derrick survived the crash with non-immediate life-threatening injuries, the full extent of the physical impact is still being assessed. Funds will help cover necessary treatments or therapies related to the accident.
• Replacement of Essential Music Equipment: Derrick’s music gear was destroyed in the crash. The funds will assist in replacing key equipment so he can continue creating, performing, and making a living as a musician.
• Emotional and Spiritual Support: Grief counseling and therapy to help Derrick process the loss of Láwû and the trauma of the accident.
• Relocation Assistance: Derrick and Micaela are in the process of settling down in Tulsa. If needed, funds may also support their move and ensure they have a safe, stable space to heal and regroup.

I am not managing these funds personally, nor Mads Falcone. Every donation is going directly to Derrick to ensure he receives the full support intended by all of you.

On behalf of Derrick, Micaela, and everyone who knows and loves them, thank you for standing with them in this moment of profound need. Derrick has always shown up for his community, pouring his heart into his music and creating spaces of energy and connection. Now it’s time for us to show up for him — to help him get back on his feet and to remind him that he’s not alone in this.

Your generosity, compassion, and support will not only help Derrick rebuild his life but will also keep his powerful music flowing.

With deepest gratitude,
Iris Carmina Escobar & Mads Falcone

Our brother and sonic architect, Baseck, needs us.

A few days ago, while driving to Oklahoma to begin a new chapter with his love, Micaela, everything changed in an instant. Derrick was a victim of a horrific car accident that took the life of a really close friend, Láwû—someone deeply important to him, someone irreplaceable. He survived the crash with minor injuries; so far, it needs to be assessed as time passes the actual physical injuries that tend to appear after any accident of this magnitude, but the weight of this trauma is beyond words, and the road ahead will be long. Right now, we need to help ease this moment for him, holding space for his spiritual and physical healing and offering our support as he navigates this tragedy.

Beyond the emotional and physical toll, he is also facing another brutal reality—most of his belongings and music gear—the very equipment he supports himself and creates music with has been damaged or destroyed.

If you know Baseck, you know this isn’t just about stuff. His music is spiritual, a force that moves through him and out into the world. His sets are more than just sound—they’re moments of connection, energy, and transformation. He has always shown up for the community, giving his time, his craft, and his heart. Many people have felt the joy he brings through his music, and beyond that, he is simply a generous, loving soul—the kind of person who knows precisely when and how to give a good hug when it’s needed most.

This effort is about helping him get back on his feet. Healing will take time, but as a community, we can come together to ease this journey and provide the support he needs now.

This is the moment where we, his community, his scene, his people, show up for him. We’ve all raged to his sets, felt the energy of his craft, and been moved by his presence. Now, it’s time to give that energy back.

We’re raising funds to help him regain what he needs—to get him the essentials so he can keep creating, keep playing, and keep going.

Every bit counts.

Drop what you can. Share if you can’t. Let's hold the light for our brother Derrick “Baseck”.
