For baby Caleb

Donation protected

Brittney and James were ecstatic to learn they would be welcoming baby number two to their family. On their routine 20 week ultra sound, it was reported to them, that their baby was a boy, and had a condition called, Sacrococcygeal teratoma (SCT). This is a growth on baby's tail bone, resulting is what could be many complications, including, heart, lungs, kidney, bladder, and bowel. They were also told he has a club foot. Faced with a decision, and given all options, and possible outcomes of continuing, or terminating pregnancy. Through much stress, and decision making, they chose their path to give this growing baby boy a fighting chance. There were complications along the way and lots of ultrasounds, and many appointments. Dispite the large mass, baby boy was growing and developing well. James and Britt were beyond hopefull he would be born with minimal problems.
On Aug. 23rd, we welcomed Caleb to the world. A month early weighing, 10 pounds, 8 ounces. He was intubated immediately when born, as he was not breathing. The growth had grown so large and was in his stomach pressing on his lungs and heart causing fluid to form. When Caleb was less than 7 hrs old, he had his first surgery to remove the part of the mass in his stomach. He pulled through with blood transfusions and platletts. Holding his own, and fluid decressing daily, he underwent his second surgery at 4 days old to remove the remainder of the growth, and pulled through, as he is a strong fighting boy.
He has the best of care, and is doing well, and getting stronger every day. Britt was forced to finish work early, and was unable to recieve maternity benifits, as she did not recieve enough hours. James works everyday. With Caleb in hospital and Britt without benifits, this couple are finding it hard to make ends meet and forsee hard ship in the coming months with Caleb's coming needs. If you can find it in your heart to help out in any way possible, your generousity would be a big help and greatly appricated. Gift cards for grocery, or gas would also be appriciated. You can contact me at [email redacted] or here on FB for a pick up of a donation as well. Donations can also be dropped off at Ralph's Down East Diner. There will be an account set up in Caleb's name, and any money donated will be distributed as needed. On behalf of Brittney and James, THANKYOU from the bottom of their hearts for your donations.
