For Baby Adam
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Irene and doing the fundraiser to help my sister Christine and her family while they go through this very difficult time.
This GoFundMe was set up to assist the Lam family with their mounting medical bills for the hospitalization and care of their only son, Adam, while undergoing Chemo, Stem Cell and Radiation Therapy.
On December 7, 2022, Adam was brought in to Urgent Care since Christine (mom) felt a bump on the left side of his stomach. On December 8th Adam was rushed to emergency at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles for evaluation. On December 12th a surgery was performed to remove the mass which included the removal of his left kidney. The cancer has spread throughout the surrounding cavity and has metastasis to his lungs. The Lam family received the devastating news that their only son Adam, at six months old, has developed a very rare and aggressive form of cancer called Rhabdoid. Due to the aggressive nature of the cancer, he had to undergo high dosage Chemotherapy one week after surgery, for a total of four sessions. Instead of celebrating Christmas with the family, Adam and his family had no choice but to celebrate his first Christmas and New Years in the hospital. Most of his milestones and holiday events were celebrated in the hospital. His father, Peter quit his job to be with his son while undergoing treatment. Due to having to work for insurance coverage and not being qualified for family leave, his mother Christine, struggled to balance both work and spending time with Adam as he received treatment.
On March 2nd, Adam was admitted to begin a high dosage extreme Chemo in hopes to rid a microscopic cancer cell and also rescue him with his own Stem Cell transplant at Bone Marrow Unit. On March 9th he began Stem Cell transplant, spending a whole month at the hospital. On April 10th, he was admitted again to begin Radiation Therapy for seven days.
Just a few days after Radiation Therapy, Adam developed a high fever and while changing his diaper getting ready to take him to the ER, Christine felt another bump close to the original bump on his left stomach. CHLA performed new scans and confirmed the worse news, the cancer came back and for some reason, is immune from all the Chemotherapy performed.
Because baby Adam is under the age of one and having gone through all the vigorous treatments, he does not qualify for any clinical trials. At this time there is no cure for this type of cancer. He was given only weeks to live and under Hospice care.
