On June 27th, 2018, A group of young cowgirls from a local youth horse group in Vernonia were traveling to St.Helens to participate in a Rodeo Committee Fundraising game show. Three of the four girls had horses in the trailer when it came unattached from the truck. The girls watched in fear while their horses in a trailer went 18ft into a ravine, then came to a stop upside down. With the help of the Scappoose Fire department, Grumpy’s towing, and 3 veterinarians all three horses made it out alive. One horse has significant injuries to his eye and leg. The other two horses walked away with lacerations on their legs and heads. We as a club are at a loss for words. All the vets on scene were in amazement that the 3 horses stood and walked away. The three girls that had horses in the trailer are devastated to have watched something so horrific. We as a group, are asking for financial help for the recovery of these horses and the incident bills. Four children have been affected by this incident and had to watch their companions go through a tragic accident. We all come from a tight knit community and have a very small group. Any amount will be helpful and greatly appreciated.
