If you’ve ever met Dobby (also known as Dobble, Dobs, or Bobble), you know he’s my best friend, my everything, and the sweetest boy you’ll ever meet. With his laid-back, good-boy demeanor, adorable ears, and ability to lift spirits, he’s made the world (especially mine) a better place for nearly a decade. He’s my ride or die.

The Situation:

Dobby recently received a diagnosis of anal gland adenocarcinoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer. By the time it was discovered, it had already spread to multiple lymph nodes, making him inoperable. The doctors informed me that without treatment, he would only have a few months left. I refused to accept this and asked, “What do we need to do?”

This has been both devastating, emotionally taxing, and incredibly frustrating. However, I refuse to let this stop me from giving him a chance.

Insurance, Finances, & Goals:

Despite being insured, all his claims have been denied. I submitted an appeal and it was denied as well, as they’ve determined this as a pre-existing condition since the symptoms were discovered just one day before the insurance waiting period expired. Despite the diagnosis coming after the waiting period, they are still refusing coverage. Unfortunately, not a single cent of his care will be covered by insurance.

To be completely transparent, I’m fortunate enough to be able to put his bills and medications on my credit card so I can provide him with the care he needs without any delays. I understand that not everyone has this luxury so I’m very grateful. Despite that, the bills and fees have piled up rapidly, and I had expected $7,000 of coverage from insurance, but that’s no longer a reality.

The purpose of this GoFundMe is not to express financial desperation, but rather to provide an outlet for friends and family to directly contribute and help us ensure that we can continue making his life more comfortable with additional scans, treatment, and medications. Many people have asked how they can help, and this felt like the best way to make that possible.

I’ve set the final goal at the amount which insurance would have covered for the expected (yet denied) coverage so far. Every dollar will go directly to Dobby’s ongoing and future cancer care.

Some Good News:

He has completed his last radiation treatment (5 of 5), and I’m happy to say he’s responding unexpectedly well. His affected lymph nodes have already shrunk by 50%, and he’s stayed strong throughout this journey. Next, he’ll begin oral chemotherapy to continue the fight and slow the growth as much as possible, while maintaining the best quality of life for the time he has left. With treatment, we’re hopeful he can enjoy another 1-2 years.
