For $5 You Can Help Shayne Go to Camp

Shayne is a 22-year-old with Cerebral Palsy and Epilepsy and other related medical conditions. Shayne spends his life in pain that most of us can’t even fathom, yet he is always so kind and caring. His empathy for others has no bounds. He still exudes the innocence of a child. Shayne’s life is changing right now, he is aging out of the transition program at the High School, He hasn’t been qualified for any other program yet, and as of March 12th, his 22nd birthday, he will be home with Mom 24/7. This will be a challenge for both Mom and Shayne.

Many of you know that going to summer camp has been Shayne’s favorite thing to do since he was seven years old. For Shayne camp is where he feels special and thrives in his independence. The councilors and staff cater to all campers and make them feel important. As a child, Shayne was lucky enough to go to Camps that we either free, offered grants, or allowed for fundraising. He has aged out of those camps. He now goes to a wonderful adult camp Called Quest Camp Thunderbird in Apopka Florida. If he can attend this year, it will be his 8th year, there.

The problem is, whether it is due to the state of the budgets (government etc.) or just the fact that there is less funding available for adults, the camp has become unaffordable for us. Camp Thunderbird has an 11-day session that Shayne enjoys going to, and it is $1570.00. I know your jaw just dropped, but they have to have medical staff, low camper-counselor ratio’s, and upkeep on the facilities. If we send in our deposit by March 15th that amount can be reduced to $1470, this is I believe a$20 increase in camp fees over last year. If Shayne is granted a scholarship from the camp, they have been in the past $500, leaving a balance of $970 for the family to pay.  This year Shayne’s family is unable to pay for his Camp fees. Quest Camp does not have fundraisers for the campers to participate in like camps he attended in the past. There are other fees. Also, he needs clothes to wear for the entire session, most years those get lost, and the cost of transportation. It was tough to tell Shayne his family couldn’t afford to send him this year. Shayne immediately thought he would raise money, but it isn’t like he can go out and wash cars. He could try to sell something, but that would be asking you to spend even more money. So Shayne and I decided to do a go fund me and see what will happen. Whether he can go to camp or which session he can attend will depend on how much we can raise before March 15th.

If you can donate as little as $5 and share this link on your wall asking your friends to give $5, maybe including something you know about Shayne, we could raise enough money to cover his camp fees. If you are unable to donate, Please share the link and tell your friends about Shayne and the wonderful young man he is.  We could raise enough money to cover his camp fees. The camp is also a respite for me, in other words, sometimes mom needs a break too.

WE ONLY NEED 317 PEOPLE TO DONATE $5 TO MEET OUR GOAL AND GET SHAYNE TO CAMP!

If by some incredible miracle we raise more than we need for camp fees, I can assure you it will go for Shayne and things for him to do.
