WALK HER STORY
A Movement to End Gender-Based Violence Through Collective Action
www.walkherstory.co.za

TARGET: $350,000 USD

ABOUT US

Walk Her Story is a movement launched by Footprints Foundation to transform how we respond to gender-based violence in South Africa. Combining symbolic action, community voice, and tangible support, we are mobilising women, men, and young people across the country to walk for change, pledge commitment, and build safer communities.

Launched 30 April 2026, Walk Her Story reaches across provinces with five pillars of action:

Walk: Organized marches and community walks that make GBV visible and demand justice
Pledge: Personal and institutional commitments to end GBV and support survivors
Tell: Stories of resilience and survival that challenge silence and stigma
Partner: Collaboration with government, NGOs, and private sector for systemic change
Volunteer: Thousands joining as ambassadors and activists

THE CRISIS

In South Africa, a woman is killed every 3 hours due to gender-based violence. Survivors face barriers to justice, healing, and economic independence. Current responses remain fragmented, underfunded, and often dismissive of women's voices.

Walk Her Story changes this. We centre survivor narratives, mobilise community action, and create pathways to real support.

WHERE YOUR MONEY GOES

Direct Support Fund: $140,000
Emergency assistance for survivors (safe houses, legal aid, counselling, skills training)

Campaign & Awareness: $85,000
Community walks, digital campaigns, media partnerships, storytelling platforms

Survivor Empowerment Centres: $75,000
Regional hubs for skills development, economic support, and peer healing circles

Operations & Coordination: $50,000
Staffing, logistics, impact tracking, partnership management

WHY NOW

The response to Walk Her Story's launch has been extraordinary. Thousands have pledged. Communities are organising. But we are turning away survivors and walk organisers daily because we lack resources. Every donation unlocks another woman's path to safety and dignity.
