The Story

In September 2024, our world changed forever. James Palmer-Bullock — our dear friend and the heart of our grassroots football group in Bognor Regis passed away very suddenly from a brain aneurysm at the age of 45. He was a loving husband and father of three, the kind of man who radiated energy, positivity and kindness. His loss rocked our entire community, with hundreds attending his funeral at Chichester Cathedral from across the world. A testament to the extraordinary impact he had.
But even in the midst of grief, something beautiful began to take shape.

One of our players, Joe, who has since taken on the role of running Thursday Night Football, shared a dream he and James had often spoken about: taking our social football team on an epic journey to Henningsvær, a legendary pitch 127 miles inside the Arctic Circle, known as one of the most remote football pitches in the world. We decided to make that dream a reality, turn the trip into a challenage and in the process aim to raise £50,000 for two local charities close to James’ heart.

The Mission

In August, 20 of us from all walks of life completed an extraordinary adventure, travelling 3,000 miles across Europe, playing 5 matches in 5 countries in 5 days, using only public transport to honour James and everything he stood for.

We faced some development and ex pro’s from some of Europe’s top-tier clubs:

• BX Brussels (Belgian Promotion League)
• St. Pauli (Bundesliga, Germany)
• B.93 (Danish Division 1)
• Hammarby (Swedish Premier League)

The Film

Along the way, we captured every moment of this once-in-a-lifetime journey on film, shaping it into a powerful 60-minute feature documentary.

What we’re creating is part tribute, part pilgrimage and part personal journey. You’ll witness the chaos of travel, missed trains, language barriers, exhaustion and the beauty of friendship, laughter, vulnerability and deep reflection. You’ll see grief in real time and the healing that happens when people step out of their comfort zones, together, for something bigger than themselves.

But this isn’t just a travelogue. It’s not even just about football. This is about James, the man who brought so many people together. The man who made everyone feel like they belonged. The man who turned a simple Thursday night kickabout into a lifeline for so many.
His sudden passing left a hole we’re all still learning how to live with. This film is about how we’re carrying him with us. 20 of us, everyday guys who all loved and were shaped by James, came together, covering every penny of our own travel, accommodation and costs, to make this journey across Europe. A shared commitment to honour a man who gave so much of himself to others.

This is not a polished, glossy, commercial sports doc. This is raw. Human. Emotional. It’s about brotherhood forged in grief. It’s about what it means to show up for each other. It’s about legacy, the kind that can’t be measured in stats or trophies, but in how a person makes you feel and the space they leave behind when they’re gone.

Why This Matters

This film is more than just football. It’s a story about:
• Grief and healing through action
• Brotherhood, resilience and the power of true friendship
• Climate-conscious travel, with the team using only buses and trains
• Mental health, vulnerability and the courage to carry on
• Legacy, honour and doing something bigger than yourself

At its core, this is a tribute to James and to every unsung hero who brings people together in their community. It’s also a reminder that life is short, but meaning is found in connection, belonging and showing up for one another.

How You Can Help

We’re raising funds to complete the production of the documentary. Our goal is to raise £10,000 to cover filming, equipment, post-production edit and travel for the filming crew.
This is not for the charity fund or the trip itself (which is raising £50,000 for two amazing causes: Children on the Edgeand The Sussex Snowdrop Trust). This is purely to support the making of the film so we can share this story far and wide and keep James’s legacy alive in a way that honours the love, laughter and leadership he gave so generously.
We believe this documentary has the potential to reach major networks and streaming platforms and our team includes award-winning producers, directors and industry leaders working to make that happen.

Visual Style & Tone

• A powerful blend of intimate, handheld moments and sweeping cinematic shots
• Drone footage over pitches & fjords, emotional reflections
• A modern, atmospheric score, emotive and reflective
• Tonally: raw, human, inspiring — with laughter, tears, chaos and purpose
• Think Welcome to Wrexham meets Race Across the World

We’d be honoured to have you be part of it.

Thank you for helping us make this journey.
Thank you for helping us tell this story.
Thank you for helping us honour James.

Whether you can give £10 or £100, it all makes a difference.
