Foot Soldiers Breakfast 2020
Donation protected
Dear Friend,
We write to invite you to the 55th Annual Bridge Crossing Jubilee that will be held February 27, 2020 - March 1, 2020, in Selma, Alabama. This weekend is a commemoration of the anniversary of "Bloody Sunday and the march from Selma to Montgomery to gain voting rights for all citizens of the United States. The Bridge Crossing Jubilee was born out of the National Voting Rights Museum & Institute that was started in 1993, to tell, collect, archive and preserve the history related to the African American struggle to achieve the right to vote.
One of the many events held during this weekend is the Foot Soldiers Breakfast. This event is focused on student involvement in the Struggle for Voting Rights in Selma, Alabama. Established over 10 years ago by Charles Mauldin who was the student leader of the Dallas County Youth League. This organization spearheaded the initial demonstrations. He realized that no event during Jubilee focused specifically on the invaluable contributions of the young people who actually made the Selma Movement a success. The breakfast provides a forum for those involved to tell their stories. It takes place each year at R.B. Hudson High school from which students left to engage in direct action protest.
Charles Mauldin has joined with Jo Anne Bland to utilize the breakfast’s format to record and document these stories for future generations. Our hope is to put these oral histories into a format that can be distributed to schools and organizations.
Your support is crucial to our efforts to make this event a success. Please help us preserve the rich legacy of youth involvement in social justice. This may be the last time we; the participants will be able to be together. If you’re able, we’d love it if you could make a donation to help us achieve our mission and preserve this history.
We would like to thank you in advance for your contribution. Your donation will go toward a professional photographer, a professional videographer, airfares and transportation, hotel rooms, facility rental, printed materials, advertising, and food.
Please spread the word!!!!!
