Give Thanks: Food For Lane County

Tax deductible
Give back this Holiday season.

1 dollar = 3 meals for those in need.

The Cause:

The charity I have selected is FOOD for Lane County. My local county, Lane County, is the 4th largest county in the state of Oregon and is home to about 400,000 Americans. 1 in 5 Lane County households are at or below the federal poverty line. 43% of Lane County Households struggle to meet basic needs and 33% of households are families with children. These numbers are staggering and erase all doubt that there is a real NEED for help in Lane County. This is where your generous donations and FOOD for Lane County come in to play.

What is FOOD for Lane County?

FOOD for Lane County is a private, 501(c)(3) nonprofit food bank founded in 1984 and dedicated to eliminating hunger by creating access to food. FFLC accomplishes this by soliciting, collecting, rescuing, growing, preparing and packaging food for distribution through a network of more than 150 social service agencies and programs; through public awareness, education and community advocacy; and through programs designed to improve the ability of low-income individuals to maintain an adequate supply of wholesome, nutritious food. These programs include emergency food boxes, shelters, meal sites, rehabilitation facilities, nutrition education, gleaning and community gardens. FFLC serves a diverse population of people living on limited incomes including children, families, seniors and single adults.

What will my donation go towards?

Of the revenue FFLC receives from all sources, 93.7% is spent on program functions. Only 6.3% is spent on administrative costs. Charity Navigator rates FFLC with a 4-star rating for financial health, accountability, and transparency.

Who am I?

My name is Nick Keough and I’m currently a student at Lane Community College and on a path to attend the University of Oregon. Go Ducks! I’m here today because I am currently in the middle of a major English project on the subject of crowdfunding. Crowdfunding is the use of websites, such as GoFundMe.com, to raise and donate money for a good and needing cause. With Thanksgiving and the Holidays quickly approaching, I determined it would be amazing if I could take my project one step further and actually raise a bit of cash for a local charity that really depends on donations around this time of the year. To demonstrate the raw power of the online community and how much good they are capable of I have decided to raise money for a local charity, via GoFundMe.com. To read more about my campaign please visit the Food for Lane County website at this link: https://foodforlanecounty.org/keeping-it-local/

How long is this campaign?

This campaign began on October25th, 2016 and will end exactly a two month later on Christmas Day (December 25th, 2016).

Why donate?

This isn’t just a project to me. This is about giving back. We don't live in a perfect world, and there's never going to be a perfect time to give—but there are always people out there in need of help. Whether interest rates are rising, the economy is in the doldrums, or even if you're experiencing financial difficulties of your own, the reality is that when you donate your money, you help others who need it.

“Only by giving are you able to receive more than you already have” –Jim Rohn.
