Hi my name is Cris and me and my friend Leyland have been volounteering in Kragujevac, Serbia at a stray dog shelter.

I've done plenty of volounteering in the past but this is probably the most dire situation I’ve found an organization in.

Currently the Vucjak Shelter is a safe haven for wild dogs, wolves, stray dogs, abandoned dogs and neglected dogs across Serbia. It started with the current owners mother feeding dogs outside on the streets and over time more and more dogs were being dropped off there. Unfortunately about 20 years ago she passed away and her son took it upon himself to keep these dogs safe and taken care of.

There is absolutely zero government aid or help when it comes to stray dogs so essentially this problem rests on the shoulders of one man. One man for now over a thousand dogs.

Despite his best efforts to neuter, nurse, feed, foster, and control 1000 dogs it’s just not enough. Every day or so new dogs are literally thrown into his shelter, some hit by cars, some attacked by other dogs, some simply neglected by their original owners.

To make matters worse a few years ago the government raided his shelter destroying so much of the progress and work he put into the shelter and keeping these dogs safe.

The cracks are showing with the shelter and it’s gotten to a point where they are unable to feed the dogs or treat their illnesses, let alone neuter the new ones or contstruct additional shelters.

Every dollar will be used towards buying food, medicine, neutering, constructing and hiring workers for the growing number of dogs at the shelter!
