With the Thanksgiving holiday coming up, I am planning a solo charity bike ride to raise monies for those who go hungry because of medical, financial or Covid 19-related reasons, and hope you will consider donating.

I will be attempting what’s called a Base Camp or Half Everest (everesting.cc/basecamp-rules) on my bike--which involves riding up the same hill again and again in a single day until I reach 14,514 feet in vertical gain.

For this ride, I am hoping to raise $750 to be distributed equally to three organizations who help those who are struggling to put food on the table:

·       St. Joseph Healthcare Foundation in Bangor, Maine, whose Bridge Fund is used to purchase food for recently discharged patients who are experiencing food insecurity at home.

·       Champion the Cure Challenge, which supports cancer research in Maine and provides assistance for cancer patients, who are 15 percent more likely to have food insecurity issues.

·       The Good Shepherd Food Bank of Maine, which helps provide healthy food to kids experiencing hunger, families in need, and seniors facing food insecurity. 

What do you get if you donate?

·       You help medical patients put food on the table and support cancer patients;

·       You help the mission of a statewide organization that helps families and seniors in need;

·       You encourage me to suffer the agony of climbing half of the elevation of Mt. Everest.
