The Javadi family is a remarkable Afghan family who came to Utah as refugees in 2016. Since that time, it has been a normal practice for them to send money to support not just their family, but others who are struggling in their home community on a regular basis. The recent devastation has brought this to a whole new level. A few days ago, Hanifa, the mother said “I will work through the night to send more money to people at home. Nobody in Afghanistan has been able to work for months, and that means nobody eats. Soon they will have to sell their young daughters to old men so that their families won’t starve.” As international charities will likely have a difficult time providing immediate aid given the current situation, the Javadi's will send money directly to Hanifa's brother still living in Afghanistan. He is extremely trustworthy and has followed through several times as Hanifa has funded small aid donations to the local area in the past. He will account for every dollar as he buys food and much needed supplies to take directly to families. It costs about $25/week to feed a family of 8, and the Javadi's goal is to raise $12,000.
Additionally, winter is quickly coming to Afghanistan, which will greatly affect many who do not have access to heat in their homes. Some of the support that comes from this fundraiser will go towards the winter needs (including firewood, jackets, blankets, etc) to help many survive the cold winter.
This immediate support does not solve the deep and complex issues happening right now in Afghanistan, but is one actionable thing that we can do provide some relief to our fellow humans in dire situations. The time is now to help our brothers and sisters in humanity. It is hard for us to comprehend the devastation and dire need currently being experienced in Afghanistan. PLEASE TAKE ACTION NOW.
