This year, Waterpenny Farm CSA is partnering with Food For Others in Fairfax.  (They are taking over our low-income CSA program from the Capital Area Food Bank, its home for 18 years.)  Many of our  shareholders have already contributed, as has Food For Others, and we currently have enough funds for 10 shares.   We are raising money to purchase 5 more farm shares.  The shares provide 19 weeks of fresh vegetables from our farm distributed on the Pantry's floor along with shelf-stable goods to families in need in the area our CSA serves. 

Funding this program makes it possible for Waterpenny Farm to make a regular weekly stop at Food For Others on our CSA delivery day, and puts more low-income families first in line for fresh produce each week.  In season, we also will donate excess mid-week harvest to their Food Bank when we drop off the weekly shares.

Waterpenny Farm is committed to providing a portion of the vegetables we grow to community members in need via food banks, and this program is one way we do that.   We also donate in other ways.  After our weekend markets, we donate hundreds of pounds of excess produce in season to several food assistance programs, including the Rappahannock Food Pantry, Arlington Food Assistance Coalition, and Miriam's Kitchen.
