Food-Clothing-Shelter for Harry and Belle Mattox
Donation protected
My name is Matt Mattox, son of Harry and Belle Mattox. Last night, Jan. 23rd, a sudden and intense fire destroyed my parent's home. Smoke filled the house so rapidly they could only get out with the clothes on their backs. They have no clothing, food, identification, bank cards to access money or credit. They are in their late 70's with both taking multiple prescribed medications for various medical conditions. Unfortunately, they lost all their medications as well.
I have watched since 1983 as my parents opened their home and cared for so many family members. My mother, a retired nurse, has provided long-term support and end of life care for the following family:
Emmet Taylor (her father)
Thelma Taylor (her mother)
Betty Hall (her aunt)
Jane Mattox (her mother-in-law)
Geneva Hall (her aunt)
My father is a retired veteran, serving honorably for 29 years in the United States Military. He spent two tours in Vietnam as a door gunner, was shot down twice, and earned multiple Purple Hearts. In many respects, he gave his life to his country. At 77, he still works every day to provide for his wife and family.
My parents are effectively destitute, just as they finally prepared to enter retirement. I'm not telling you a sob story to pull at your heart in an attempt to get at your wallet. My parents are loving, honorable people, having cared for so many others, now find themselves in need of care.
Please help us fund their basic needs - clothing, food and shelter - while we try to pick up the pieces and move forward. Any amount you can contribute is so gratefully appreciated.
