FÖJ in Ecuador mit Selva Viva – Liana Lodge

Das bin ich:

Mein Name ist Chiara Miedeck, ich bin 20 Jahre alt und habe vor einem Jahr mein Abitur in Hamburg absolviert. Nach der Schule wollte ich ein Jahr im Ausland verbringen und habe mich nach dem Besuch einer Messe entschieden für 12 Monate einen ökologischen Freiwilligendienst in Ecuador zu leisten. Dafür werde ich im August über Weltwärts nach Ecuador entsendet um beim Projekt Selva Viva - Liana Lodge mitzuarbeiten.

Ich hoffe im Rahmen des Freiwilligendienstes aktiv zum Umweltschutz beitragen zu können, neue Kulturen kennenzulernen und Erfahrungen zu sammeln.

Was ist Weltwärts?

Weltwärts ist ein vom BMZ (Bundesministerium für politische Zusammenarbeit) geförderter Freiwilligendienst, der für entwicklungspolitisches Engagement, globales Lernen und Begegnung auf Augenhöhe steht. Über ihn können junge Erwachsene zwischen 18 und 28 für ein Jahr im Ausland, meistens in einem Land des globalen Südens einen entwicklungspolitischen Freiwilligendienst leisten.

Was Ist Selva Viva – Liana Lodge

Selva Viva ist ein Schutzprojekt für den Erhalt des ecuadorianischen Regenwalds mit Schutzwald (Reservat), einer Tierauffangstation, einer Schule für Kichwa-Kinder und der Liana Lodge, die zusammen mit den Menschen aus den umliegenden Dörfern betrieben wird. Die Liana Lodge hat das Ziel den Gästen einen Einblick in die lokale Kichwa-Kultur und die Natur des Amazonas-Regenwalds zu bieten.

Meine Aufgaben und Projekte vor Ort

Da Selva Viva aus verschiedenen Projekten zusammengeschlossen ist, fallen für mich und andere Freiwillige verschiedene Aufgaben an. Dazu gehört vor allem die Mitarbeit im Team der Liana Lodge und die Unterstützung der Waldhüter*innen, die sich um den Zustand des Schutzwalds kümmern und Daten über beobachtete Tiere zu sammeln. Davon abgesehen fallen noch weitere Aufgaben an, wie das Aushelfen in der Tierauffangstation, Öffentlichkeitsarbeit, sowie Umweltbildung für die Besucher. Da ich in dem Projekt direkt mit der Gemeinschaft zusammenarbeite, werden auch die alltäglichen Tätigkeiten, wie Arbeiten am Haus und auf dem Gelände, Betreuung der Kinder und ähnliches zum Arbeitsalltag gehören.

Finanzierung (Sie betreffend)

Das Bundesministerium übernimmt 75% der durch den Freiwilligendienst anfallenden Kosten. Der restliche Betrag fällt auf die Organisation, in meinem Fall Selva Viva, zurück. Die restlichen 25% der Kosten werden durch die Freiwillen in Form von Spenden abgedeckt. Dies sind in meinem Fall 3.400 Euro für das gesamte Jahr.

This is me

My name is Chiara Miedeck, i´m 20 years old and I graduated on high school in Hamburg last year. After school I wanted to spend one year abroad and after visiting a fair for abroad programs, I decided to do 12 months of ecological volunteer work in Ecuador. In August I´m going to Ecuador through Weltwärts, to collaborate in the projekt Selva Viava – Liana Lodge.

I hope the volunteer work will give me the chance to engage myself activly in environment protection, coming in contact with new cultures and gaining experience.

What is Weltwärts

Weltwärts is a volunteer service funded by the BMZ (German federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development) that promotes development engagement, global learning and peer-to-peer interaction. Through it, young adults between 18 and 28 can complete a development volunteer service for one year abroad, usually in a counrty of the global south.

What is Selva Viva – Liana Lodge?

Selva Viva is a rainforest protection program with an animal rescue station, a school for Kichwa-Childeren, an own nature reserve and the Liana Lodge operated together with local living people. The liana lodge has the goal to give visitos an insight in the local Kichwa-culture and the nature of the Amazonas rainforest.

My tasks and projekts on site

Selva Viva is composed of several projects which means that there will occure very different tasks for me and and other vounteers. Above all the cooperation with the team of the liana lodge and the support of the forest rangers, who are responsible for preservation of the reserve and collecting data about observed animals. Apart from that there more tasks, for example helping out in the animal rescue station, doing public relation and environmental education for visitors. In the projekt I will collaborate directly with the community, so that daily tasks like working in the house or at the site, taking care of the children and similar will part of my working life.

Finance (concerning you)

The federal ministry covers 75% of the costs incurred through volunteer service. The remaining amount falls back on the organization, in my case Selva Viva. These are the costs the volunteers have to pay themseves through donations. This would be 3.400 Euro in total for the entire year.
