Hello my name is Joi and I’m raising money to fund a new start for my friend Jaz.

Focusing a skateboard out of anger is something I gave up doing a long time ago (if you’re not a skater, this is what we call breaking a skateboard with your foot). I called this fund raiser “Focus on Jaz” because I like to paint on broken skateboards and I’m going to offer the ones I’ve done plus however many more I need to make until I raise enough money to get Jaz off the streets.

Jaz and I met through skateboarding - she’s a ripper.

Prior to Covid times Jaz was doing professional massage and caring for her cat Maude who she’s passionately devoted to. When the shut downs happened her income was cut off instantly.

Getting any kind of job and finding a safe work environment is hard for trans women of color in the best of times, so you can imagine the last few years have been devastating this group. For Jaz, the loss of income was just the beginning.

Somehow during the national moratorium on evictions, she got evicted and even lost at her day in court over it. Can you imagine even making it to a court date when you’ve already lost your job and home? Sadly this infuriating series of events isn't even over yet, her scum landlord threw away all of her belongings including her massage table. All of this makes my blood boil.

Currently Jaz and Maude are experiencing traumatic, chaotic days and cold nights in a homeless encampment near Hollywood.

We cannot allow it.

This boost will allow get her back on her feet with time to reestablish her business doing professional massage so that being off the streets will be permanently sustainable.
