As a quadriplegic from an accident in 1994 when I fell approximately 60' and broke the 5th and 6th Cervical vertebrae (my neck) and severed my spinal cord there are numerous challenges that I've overcame. However, gainful enough employment and the ongoing cost of medical care have been too daunting - even though I have health insurance. If you are wondering about supplemental insurance I've applied and I either can't afford them or I don't qualify.
Over the last two years issues related to bladder paralysis have worsened to the point that I have to ask for this assistance. I have over $6000 in medical debt that I have had to use balance transfer offers in order to prevent the debt from being sent to a collection agency (which would ruin my credit) because I can't even afford the minimum payment required to satisfy hospital and doctor's repayment requirements. Of course these balance transfer offers usually have a 3-5% fee and carrying these revolving balances isn't exactly good for my credit either. For example, even though the rent where I live gets paid every month that money keeps going to someone else instead of building equity via homeownership because the banks want that debt paid first and rolling the debt into a mortgage makes the payments unaffordable.
Thankfully we've found an option that significantly helps the bladder issues, but after a few ER visits, an outpatient bladder procedure and being admitted in the hospital a couple times (including four days in the ICU) in the past nine months I am no longer able to handle my medical debt anymore. I truly hate having to ask for assistance like this, but all of the penny pinching on necessities, going to food pantries, no vacations, not attending out of town weddings, postponing vehicle tires and other maintenance and a no-interest loan from a friend just aren't enough to make ends meet.
I greatly appreciate you taking the time to consider my situation and want to thank you in advance for whatever you can contribute because every dollar will not only pay off debt, but it'll save additional debt from interest and fees.
Respectfully,
Charles "Chaz"
