Hello, we are the Harris family and our oldest son's name is Tyler. We are suddenly facing very large medical bills from Tyler's month long NICU stay when he was born. They are due suddenly at the end of this month due to insurance denying claims. We have been fighting with the hospital and insurance for the last couple of months and not much has resolved. Even after conversations with lawyers and hospital financial specialists and managers, we are still being held liable for most of the amount. We did receive one grant, but now the rest is owed in full by February 1st. We are using our emergency savings and money from selling my oldest car to pay off a portion, but will still be $15,000 short. Anything helps if you are able, including saying prayers as well. Thank you!
Tyler's backstory: As we were driving to move back home from vet school, I was pregnant. I had been diagnosed with pre-eclampsia a few weeks prior, but my doctor said I was safe to move home. COVID had just started to ramp up and no one was sure what was going to happen. On the 13 hour drive home, I began to lose consciousness in the middle of nowhere in Idaho. I felt severe pains and cramps, and don't remember much else. We didn't have cell service to call for help and had to drive 45 minutes to reach a hospital. When we arrived, I was admitted immediately and taken to emergency C-section. Due to being unconscious for almost the whole first day in the hospital, I do not remember specifics from the experience other than what my doctors and husband said. My blood pressure was 190/122 and my liver values were too high to read. I was on seizure watch as well. Also, my placenta had detached and baby's heart rate was dropping. Because of all this, surgery was rushed. Branden was told that both my life and the baby's was at risk and they needed to go quickly. They didn't even do the steroid shots to try to help Tyler's lungs. After the surgery finished, I continued to have elevated liver values, loss of consciousness, and severely high blood pressure. Tyler had respiratory problems to face due to being a preemie. This all resulted in a month long NICU stay for Tyler after he was born. And I was a patient for 10 days and then got readmitted twice during the remainder of the time due to my symptoms recurring even with high doses of medication.
Now, 2-years-later, Tyler is a happy and healthy little boy with only the high medical bills as evidence of his rough start at life. The story involving the insurance complications is long and stressful to describe. We have spent countless hours on the phone with various people and organizations already. Thank you for your time, donations, kind thoughts/words, and prayers.
